APTA Michigan Institute for Education and Research

Our Purpose:

To promote education, research and other endeavours to facilitate development of the art and science of physical therapy and improve the accountability and credibility of the profession.

The APTA Michigan Institute for Education and Research, Inc. is a sister organization to APTA Michigan (APTA MI). The APTA Michigan Institute for Education and Research was created by the APTA Michigan Board of Directors to provide a tax sheltered non-profit entity to promote research and education related to physical therapy in the State of Michigan. Annually scholarships, research grants, and awards are given out by the institute to encourage research and the continuation of the physical therapy profession.

Funds for the APTA Michigan Institute for Education and Research Institute are from the Michigan Physical Therapy Institute Endowment Fund at the Michigan Capital Region Community Foundation and donations made directly to the APTA Michigan Institute for Education and Research Institute by companies or individuals. We appreciate your support for physical therapy education and research in Michigan.

These donations are managed by the APTA Michigan Institute Trustees. The money received will be used by the Institute for grant funding, scholarships, to encourage research and presentation of information at state conferences and programs. This is a 501(c) 3 and a receipt will be mailed for your donation. Donations may be made in honor or memory of a person you wish to recognize. A card will be sent to the family of the person to honor your contribution.

Team Rehab Student Physical Therapist Scholarship

Purpose:

This scholarship is intended to reward and encourage PT and PTA students who are already showing promise as practical clinicians. One scholarship will be awarded in each academic year to a third-year student in each Michigan DPT education program, provided there are at least 2 applicants from each program. In addition, one scholarship will be awarded to a second-year PTA student currently enrolled in a Michigan PTA education program. Winners of these scholarships will each be paid a stipend of $2,000. The APTA Michigan Institute for Education and Research Trustees will provide the winners of the scholarships their checks at the APTA Michigan Fall Conference Awards Ceremony.

Orthopedic Rehab Specialist Scholarship

Purpose:

This scholarship is intended to reward and encourage PT students who exemplify the four core values of Orthopedic Rehab Specialists (ORS): Respect, Environment, Accountability, and Service. Four scholarships will be awarded in each academic year to a third-year student currently enrolled in a Michigan PT education program. Winners of these scholarships will each be paid a stipend of $2,500. The APTA Michigan Institute for Education and Research Trustees will provide the winners of the scholarships with their checks at the APTA Michigan Fall Conference Awards Ceremony.

Lookabaugh Memorial Scholarship

Purpose:

This scholarship is intended to reward and encourage physical therapy (PT) and physical therapist assistant (PTA) students who are interested in pursuing a career in oncology rehabilitation. One scholarship will be awarded in each academic year to a PT or PTA student currently enrolled in their final year at a Michigan PT or PTA school. The winner of this scholarship will be paid a stipend of $2,500. The APTA Michigan Institute for Education and Research Trustees will provide the winner of the scholarship with his or her check at the APTA Michigan Fall Conference Awards Ceremony.
