APTA Michigan’s Clinical Education Consortium (CEC) would like to remind you of our fall meeting on Thursday, October 29, 2020 from 2:30-4:30 PM. The business meeting is from 2:30 to 3:45 pm and the educational session is from 3:45 to 4:30 pm. You are welcome to attend all or either portion of the meeting.

Real World Foot/Ankle - 4 Contact Hours

Speaker:  Sherry McLaughlin MSPT, CSCS

Virtual interactive seminar, demonstration of hands-on manual therapy techniques designed to introduce and expand the concepts behind treating this most often injured part of the body. This seminar is designed to give the participant exposure to:

  • Real World Biomechanics of the Foot/Ankle Spine
    • Pronation v. Supination
    • Biomechanics of Gait
    • Evaluating functional movement of the foot/ankle
  • Virtual Demonstration Hands-On! (Intro to Manual Therapy Techniques to treat foot/ankle conditions)
    • Correcting over pronation
    • Correcting over supination
  • The Missing Links to the Foot/Ankle (When Things Go Wrong)
    • Over pronation problems (tarsal tunnel, Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis)
    • Over supination problems (chronic ankle sprain, Morton’s neuroma)
  • Training Movement in the Real World (Exercise ideas for rehab of the functional foot/ankle)

Learning Outcomes:

By completion of the course, the participant will be able to:

1. Identify over pronation and over supination scenarios and relationship to orthopedic conditions of the foot/ankle

2. Understand functional muscle function of the LE

3. Employ various manual therapy techniques to restore normal foot/ankle mobility

4. Understand, evaluate and treat common foot/ankle orthopedic conditions using a biomechanical treatment model

5. Design exercise programs to treat common foot/ankle orthopedic conditions based on biomechanical and movement deficits
