Dr. Shoemaker received a B.S. in Physical Education with an Exercise Science Specialization from Calvin College in 1996. In 1999 he earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Slippery Rock University, and earned his PhD in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences from Western Michigan University in 2012. He has been board-certified as a Geriatric Clinical Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties since 2002. His practice has been focused in cardiopulmonary and geriatric rehabilitation and cardiothoracic critical care. Research interests include cardiopulmonary rehabilitation with an emphasis on physical activity in heart failure.
Dr. Shoemaker serves as a consultant for clinical patient care and research, and serves as an expert witness in malpractice litigation.
